Belton House, Lincolnshire

Patrick and I had a nice afternoon at Belton House yesterday, walking in the garden and chatting.  The church is jam-packed full of the elaborate monuments of the Brownlow family, from the House, and I particularly love this one. I'm afraid that I should have used a tripod, as it's hard to keep the camera still enough if you are not using flash, so it's not as well in focus as it should be, but I think it gives a marvellous idea of period, and I wonder what it was like for those who knew the couple to see them so vividly and realistically depicted after their deaths.

I also love this poor old sad bulldog, lying at his master's feet for all eternity.
