Autumn at Woodlands

Autumn has come at last to Woodlands, and now all the leaves are covering the lawns, ready for us to start the task of raking them into bags for leafmould.  No more knitting in the garden for this year, but now we have the spring bulbs to look forward to.  Tom is spending most of his days in bed, now!

Belton House, Lincolnshire

Patrick and I had a nice afternoon at Belton House yesterday, walking in the garden and chatting.  The church is jam-packed full of the elaborate monuments of the Brownlow family, from the House, and I particularly love this one. I'm afraid that I should have used a tripod, as it's hard to keep the camera still enough if you are not using flash, so it's not as well in focus as it should be, but I think it gives a marvellous idea of period, and I wonder what it was like for those who knew the couple to see them so vividly and realistically depicted after their deaths.

I also love this poor old sad bulldog, lying at his master's feet for all eternity.

Preview of more new gloves for Autumn!

Here is a sneak preview of these rather special fingerless glove which I shall be putting into my Etsy Shop soon.
The bead pattern looks rather like a bow, or a star.  The beads are a really nice muted selection of colours, and the sea-green gloves would make a lovely addition to anyone's autumn wardrobe.

Green verbena geranium and fern-patterned gloves

I finished these lovely green fingerless gloves a few days ago. The ferny lace pattern reminded me of my verbena geranium, so I tried to photograph them next to it!

more new gloves for autumn!

Here is a pair of fingerless gloves with beads which I finished knitting last week. I hope that they will appeal to the Fall/Halloween season in the US and Autumn in the UK. Not sure what season it currently is 'down-under', but I'm sure they will appeal there as well!
I photographed them in fron of my spectacular crop of plum tomatoes, growing against a south-facing wall of the house.

Woodlands

The long gap with no posts is due to the fact that we moved house 100 miles away in March 2010. We now have half an acre of lovely woodland garden to romp around in, which gives me plenty of shady nooks in which to sit and knit on warm days.
On the right is our 'walled garden', which is lovely on autumn evenings, when the walls retain the heat from the sun. On the left is the view through to our neighbour's orchard.
Son has now gone to sing in York Minster Choir and to read music at York University, so suddenly I have time on my hands to devote to ... knitting and reading!
